Naming Ceremonies

How do we welcome a new child into our world?

A Naming or Namegiving Ceremony (or child blessing) is a wonderful way to welcome a new child into the community or circle of family and friends.  A naming ceremony can also be a special way to acknowledge and welcome an older child to the circle.

Godparents, mentors or guardians can be appointed to establish their future relationships with the child.

Some rituals which can be included to mark this time of transition for both parents and child are:
  •       lighting of candles
  •       sprinkling with water or rose petals
  •       tree-planting
  •       sealing a time capsule
  •       making contributions to a memory box.

Each child will receive a certificate to mark this very special life celebration.  Godparents, mentors or guardians may also receive a certificate if required.

Rites of Passage

There are many rites of passage and transitions in life. A ceremony to celebrate these important life stages acknowledges the passing of the old and the welcoming of the new.

Some of these are:
  • giving thanks for the impending birth of a child (Blessingway)
  • ending adolescence and beginning adulthood
  • a coming of age
  • divorce and moving on
  • commencing a new career
  • retirement!
